Investments in the energy sector are being prioritized as a precondition to sustainable development by many African governments, regional organizations as well as the international donor community. 

As a result, numerous initiatives have been initiated with the common goal to bolster and support the continent to achieving a sustainable energy future. 

The increasing number of initiatives also leads to an increased need for coordination. As a minimum, information about who is doing what must be available and exchanged to avoid duplication. 

Therefore, a mapping has been undertaken in the context of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) with the involvement and support of numerous partners.  The African Union Commission (AUC) is offering political leadership, with input from the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) Africa Hub based at the African Development Bank (AfDB). Other key stakeholders including the European Commission, IRENA, UNEP, the World Bank, among others, have expressed their support and contributed actively.
